This is a beautiful coat with amazing performance! Let's start with the wool exterior. It is beautiful. Top quality cashmere wool. It looks high end and professional. The material is waterproof and windproof. It is fantastic.
On to performance. The down is unbelievably warm. I live in Milwaukee,WI. We went through a stretch of single digit weather with wind. Even with just a dress shirt underneath, I felt NO wind and NO cold. When paired with a scarf the warmth is incredible. This is, by far, the warmest coat I have ever owned.
It is a slight bit boxy, which one would expect for a down coat. I was looking at the long Canada Goose down puffer jackets but did not want that look. It is not as "puffy" as those coats and it is amazingly light. But it is a little boxy. That is to be expected but, I did find it to be a little more boxy than in the photos. Fine with me, but be so advised.
Seems to run true to size. I am 6' 2", 215 lbs. I have a 46 inch chest and a 34 inch waist. This makes fitting a little difficult. To fit across my shoulders and chest, jackets are often way too big at the waist. I went with an XL. The fit across my check and shoulders is perfect even with a heavy sweater or sports coat. It absolutely is big at the waist. If it had a belt, I would cinch it significantly. But it does not look oversized. It looks like you would expect for a heavy coat.
For me, a L would be perfect at the waist, but tight in the chest/shoulders and not comfortable at all.
I love this coat so much, I bought the Travelers Coat to have a lighter rain jacket with a similar structure.
The coat is great. The reason I am deducting one star from the rating is that I had really wanted the cashmere version of the coat and none was available which was disappointing.
Hi David, I'm sorry you weren't able to find the specific coat you hoped; we sold out of some styles much faster than expected this year. If you'd like to place a pre-order for anything for next year, let us know! If the coat is truly great, I do think it warrants a 5-star review. Let us know if we can assist in any way at all. In the meantime, I hope the wool version keeps you warm this winter. Thank you! -Lainie
the zipper is not smooth and seems to be off, otherwise this is a great coat!
Hi John, It's definitely a great coat, but it shouldn't have a faulty zipper! If you're local to NYC, please stop into the Fifth Ave Store. Otherwise, please email info@norwegian-wool.com and Katie will help you troubleshoot and resolve this!
I've been wearing it non-stop since I got it and it's very warm and comfortable without missing style. But I've gotten a suggestion, since it buttons up on the side, the other side of the coat tends to hang and the tip of it can be seen. It's an easy fix, just a button on the other side would keep it adjusted and in place. Other than that it's a beautiful, useful and awesome garment.
